What is your position in the company?

Key Account Manager

How would you describe your job to a child?

I sell very large plastic containers to meat and poultry companies that need to ship various kinds of meat and poultry from one plant to another for further processing.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Mostly the people I meet in the protein industry.  They tend to be down-to-earth and, I’m guessing, that’s generally a result of living in rural areas which is where most of the plants are located.

Is there anything exciting that you are currently working on?

I thought the pork and beef industries would be the primary users of the Combo Pro bin but the recent level of interest from the chicken industry is changing my opinion.  It appears the poultry industry may become larger than pork.

What was your first job?

My first job was as a caddie at a private country club when I was 11.  Sometimes I would draw a golfer that owned a bag about as big as I was at the time.  My first “big boy” job was working for a rubber molding company as the third shift foreman.  We primarily compression-molded and injection-molded rubber bushings, O-rings and dust boots for the automotive industry.

Do you have any hobbies?

I’d say golf is one of my hobbies but I haven’t played a round in three years.  I live on a lake so I’m boating and swimming with my wife, kids, grandkids and friends. Maybe I’ll pick up golf again when I retire.  I used to be pretty good at golf but I’ll bet I’ll be in for a surprise when I pick it up again after several years have passed.

What was the best concert you ever attended?

Emerson, Lake and Palmer.  When I was in college, as president of my fraternity, I was able to enlist our group as “Roadies” when ELP came to my college.  We worked long hours for free but had the opportunity to sit in the front row for the concert.  A few of my brothers met the band.  After the concert we had to break everything down and load it into the trucks.  A very long day but memorable.

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ribeye steak.

Do you have a favorite sport or team?

Chicago Blackhawks.  They had a great run in 2010, 2013 and 2015.  It was the Chicago Bulls in the 90’s.  Yes, I freely admit I’m a fair-weather fan.

If you were stuck on an island, who’s the one person you’d chose to help you survive?

The politically correct answer would be my wife Peggy.  But the reality is that Peggy and I have an unwritten agreement…  She takes care of most of the things inside the house and I take care of the outside. I’m assuming there is no shelter on the island so I’d have to build a house.  I think I’d go with Mike Rowe from the TV show Dirty Jobs.  He’s well rounded with experience in a lot of different work environments.  He might even know how to build a boat!  He probably wouldn’t demand there be indoor plumbing so that’s another strike against my wife.
